Ijust got cut sunflowers for my birthday. How do I care for them?

Do I trim the stems like I would other cut flowers or do I leave them alone? if trimming is needed what do I use? Any info will be helpful!

As they said, trim the ends. Use a sharp knife and cut them at a 45 degree angle. Also cut off any leaves that will be near or below the water line. Put the flowers in a vase with the sugar water. Every couple of days, take them out, rinse the ends and cut off another 1/2 inch and put the flowers back in fresh water. Wash out the vase with hot water and soap and rinse well before putting them back. Once the ends sit in water a while, they close up and also bacteria grows that causes them to rot. Keeping the stems open and in clean water will allow your flowers to last twice as long (former florist)
Reply:Trim them..put them it a pretty big vase with about 1TB. of bleach to 1gal. of water.....Lovely!
Reply:yes trim them just above the rubber bands and put them in sugar water and change the water every other day so that the water does not smell and the stems don't get slimy.
